Hi Dan,I don't believe the 406 is required yet. I just had to replace the one in my Cub and was still able to get the old one from ACS for about $160. I just could not pop fora 406 at the time. 121.5 is no longer activly monitored and so is of less use.I would suggest getting one that uses common D Batteries, not special batteries.A little more up front cost that saves in the long run. I used to have to do thatto land it on the grass ahead of the paved runway at 8T8, because there was arow of trees on the final approach path and I would kick it into a hard slip overthe trees, kick it out down close to the grass, then roll out as pretty asyou please before getting to the paved threshold and let the grass do all thebraking.
