Jack;My J-3 guru says that the stock Cub setup is for a quarter-turn locking cap, notthreaded. You have some kind of hermaphrodite tank with a threaded neck, orelse it was used in something else that required a neck extension to get thecap up to the cowl (the more likely possibility).FWIW, my cheapie tap & die set has a little feeler-gauge type thing where eachblade has teeth cut into it with its corresponding thread pitch. You just putthe teeth of each blade up to your threaded part till you find one that fits,then read the thread pitch off the blade and voila. At any rate, you may needto fabricate something that threads onto your tank neck. Quarter-turn fillernecks and caps are easy to come by... I got one from Summit Racing to buildthe aluminum smoke oil tank that I have for Scout (still not installed). It usesa spring-loaded and gasketed radiator type cap on it. They sell all the partsneeded to fabricate your own fuel or oil tank and there are several fillernecks and caps available.
