Ray; forgive me if I've missed it, but where exactly are you located, and whereis this all-night Piet party supposed to happen on November 9? Willows? I wasjust by there on Thursday and again on Saturday last week, headed down to Sacramentoand back. I was scoping out fuel and rest stops for my planned tripdown to Frazier Lake next June in 41CC. I know I'll want to stop in the Montague/Weedarea once I make it over the Siskiyou Summit, but from there I'll needanother stop somewhere around Chico.I can't make it down there Nov. 9, but maybe some of the Piet folk will show upand keep you company.--------Oscar ZunigaMedford, ORAir Camper NX41CC "Scout"A75 powerRead this topic online here:

Oscar,I am in Colusa, Ca, about 40 miles south south west of Chico. If you come thisway, please plan on staying here, if you need a stop. In Chico, you might considerChico Ranchaero airport. It has a grass strip I learned to fly off back inthe very early '60s. It can be a little rough due to squirrels and there digging! On the 9th, Gary Booth, Chris, Tim and maybe 1-2others will be here. Whenever youcome back this way, please stop in, even unannounced! I am almost always here,or very close by. And feel free to stay here, if it is at all convenientfor you. The same goes for any Pietenpoler!I will at least see you in Frazier Lake. Thanks,RaySent from my iPad> On Oct 29, 2013, at 9:13 PM, "taildrags" wrote:> > > Ray; forgive me if I've missed it, but where exactly are you located, and whereis this all-night Piet party supposed to happen on November 9? Steve Hi!Your efforts of metal bashing are recently and well remembered.I did manage to sort out that front area of the lower Rose Bowl/Air Intake using a similar technique to yourself. The plate I made did just about conform to shape albeit with a slightly planished finish. The actual sponge air filter area has a stainless steel (304-1.5mm) surround plashed out with a mesh insert over the filter. It look good.Unfortunately this airplane is no more. Totalled last year in a climb out incident. It went in at 40+ degrees and the front end was smashed. It's replacement is also A65 powered with same type of cowlings. Will do similar once engine returns from overhaul.I have found a traditional metal basher who does beautiful work on vintage cars. He has a fibre glass Rose Bowl as a pattern and is making aluminium version. The 'first fit' was perfect and it's now back with him for finishing. ACS versions are about $1500+ by the time they get to Europe.I've attached a picture of front end. It might show the sort of thing you are doing?RegardsGerryGerry

Steve,Make sure you are using a soft aluminum. 3003 would be very good. 2024 = cracks.Dan HelsperPuryear, TN-----Original Message-----

Found a deal on some spruce boards on Barnstormers pietenpol list.trouble was they were in North Carolina and I'm in Arkansas. I hate to drive soI went to some online shipping brokers and finally found one in my price range.Just faxed more paper work to the company and a bill of laden to the guyin NC. Having a tough time jumping through all the hoops.but some good news today, the owner is shipping me a rib jig and some extra gussetsand stuff . The spruce should be good , he bought it from aircraft sprucefor a school aircraft project , then they backed out after building a coupleof ribs. We think it will be enough for the complete aircraft of course lessthe plywood and glue and ect ect ect. Sure will be glad to get in my shop, maybe next week sometimeRead this topic online here:

Steve,I used .032 thick 3003. Worked very well. I hammered in some bumps and louvers very easily. The stuff is sufficiently soft and has held up very well so far.Dan HelsperPuryear, TN-----Original Message-----
