I am nowhere near ready to cover, but I am just trying to get my budget in orderfor my build. I searched the Forum archives but did not find much, if any informationregarding how much fabric is used to cover the Air Camper. I did, however, find this very old post. I have underlined and made bold the "punchline"of the discussion. So If I am doing my math 6' X 135' = 90 square yards? Oris it sold as 45 running yards of 6 foot wide fabric? Help!! - "Date: Feb 29, 2000

Terry;I have never covered a complete Air Camper, so I'm just going by information thatI found in my own search of the archives a few years ago when I was doing latexpaint testing. The writeup for those tests can be found here:http://www.flysquirrel.net/piets/paint/paint.htmlYou will notice that the section of text between the two images of the unfinishedtest panel and the finished test panel lists 38 yards of 60" width fabric.Again, since I have never covered a complete airplane I have no idea whetherthis is accurate or not, and in any case it does not allow for any overhang, patches,or wiggle room. Your mileage may vary. However, that adds up to 570sq. ft. of fabric and the number that you mention in your post, 6' x 135', addsup to 810 sq. ft. or about 40% more than the number that I had. Let's keepthis ball in play for awhile and see who else chimes in with recent covering experienceand quantity. Chris Rusch, Ken Bickers, and a few others should havefresh info.--------Oscar ZunigaMedford, ORAir Camper NX41CC "Scout"A75 powerRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Sun, 17 Nov 2013 22:03:01 -0700Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Re: How Much Fabric?

Yes, seems like Bernard's design is the simplest and anything else just gets abit more complex.... I'll post photos of my pivot bar sometime soon. It's a particularlybusy week here for me so we'll see when I can get to it.....--------Jake Schultz - curator,Newport Way Air Museum (OK, it's just my home)Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: How Much Fabric?

Hi TerryYou need at least 24 yards of the 72 inch wide stuff to do the wings the easy way.The narrower fabric won't give you enough overlap on the leading and trailingedges if you want to put one sheet on the top and one on the bottom. Youcould always run the pieces perpendicular to the spars (one loop joined at thetrailing edge) and hide the lap joint at a rib with the rib lacing and pinkedtape if you had no other choice but the 60 inch wide stuff. The air doesn'tcare.45 yards total sounds about right and allows for at least one serious oops.In deference to debris kicked up by tires and prop, you might consider using theheavier weight cloth for the bottom of the fuselage and maybe the horizontalstab/elevator. Since you didn't ask, I recommend the Stewart system and get their DVDs. Makesthe job much easier.DaveRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________
