Adding to the discussion (see attached):Today I moved out my Piet so John Howard could do W&B on his new Zenith 750.We had Pelouze scales supplied by our EAA Chapter.as opposed to when I didmy own W&B with a digital bathroom scale. Since all was there and ready togo, with help, I re-weighed my Piet.I was approximately 50 lbs off on the gross weight, but the numbers stillfell within the envelope [sigh of relief]. As a quick review:Long fuselageCorvairCabanes tilted 4"Gary BootheNX308MB

Gary=2C I appreciate very much this discussion on W&B. I asked some questions here a few months ago about CG location in order to make an educated decision about my axle location. Many thanks to those who responded. I got Doc's package of articles which proved very helpful. The Excel spreadsheet you attached brings to mind another question I have: What do others use as a MAX Gross Weight number. Your spreadsheet shows one example with a 1340.2 lb gross weight! That would be a very handy number=2C if it is practical.>From my basic set of plans=2C I have had the number of 1080 lb in my mind. If I can finish my build at a 650-680 lb empty weight (I'm going with a long fuse.=2C and an O-200=2C Oratex fabric)=2C I would have about 400 lb for me=2C fuel=2C and an attractive (but lightweight) young woman. What number do others use as a MAX gross weight number? And how do you justify it=2C allowing margins for rough air=2C etc? Thanks for the replies. Incoming . . .Lorenzo=2C Tellico Plains=2C TN(about 50% done=2C 90% to go)

Lorenzo,That was a mistake. The max gross weight of my Piet is 1289 lbs. I wasmessing around with pilot and passenger weights to see how CG changed.andforgot to change it back.Gary BootheNX308MB
