Howdy, low 'n' slow fliers;To all who were interested in the Kapler style cast aluminum tail hinges, thankyou for your patience. I recently received a batch of castings from the foundryand they are quite good. With the small stock of castings that I got fromVi when I bought his parts and tooling, I now have enough material to produceabout 30 sets of hinges (9 pairs). In the attached photo you can see what 269pairs of the rough castings look like, but there are a few rejects among themand I have yet to begin machining them to final shape (all by hand), which mayturn up a void or flaw in a couple more. The foundry and my supplier werevery good to me, so I can continue to offer them at what I think is a reasonableprice: $72 a set plus $3 shipping in the U.S., total of $75 for the nine pairsof hinges that go in the tail group on an Air Camper. I've found out thatthese hinges are nearly identical to those used on the W.A.R. replicas, so theremay be a wider market for them than I originally thought, but I'm not sureof that yet. My first priority will be to supply Piet builders.I am not ready to start taking orders yet, but I wanted to report that I do havethe raw stock to start putting hinges back in the supply pipeline as I get setsfinished and I hope to do that soon. Those who have already contacted me,I have your names on the list. I appreciate it, and I hope to be of serviceto builders if I can produce hinges equal to those that Vi has been supplyingfor years.
