Ambeginning with metal fittings, (elevator and rudder horns), and tail surfaces.The sander is good for sizing the wood pieces, as well as the steel ones.Ordered spruce from Wicks, got it shaped at a local cabinet shop and am nowgluing up the rudder. It's fun to see the first pieces that are recognizableas aircraft parts. I suggest you get cast aluminum hinges from Vi Kapler,(he's on the BAP homepage). Sanding clogsthe pores of the wood and weakens the bond. I did nearly zero sandingon my project. Most material removal and cutting should be done withcarbide tools and saws and finished with a sharp hand plane. All finishcuts for my wood parts were done with a 200 tooth 7 1/4" hollow groundcrome blade. Very smooth clean cuts.Power sanders are an invaluable tool however for metal fittings. Buy anything that has anything to do withwoodworking. Just kidding. You will need a table saw with a std. blade,a rip blade and a planer blade. A band saw is not necessary, I convertedmine to cut 4130. Small tools such as hand planer you will definitelyuse. You will need some 'C' clamps and some hand spring type clamps.Chisels, at least two different sizes. Large square, and a small onetoo. If i left anything out buy it anyway you will probably use it. Ohyes a measuring tape and make sure you measure everything 3 times or youwill end up building more than one aircraft. At least I did.
