Wanted to talk to you on samesubject.>>> Hello Brian;>>>>My name is Joe Czaplicki, from Zion, Illinois.I'm a BPA member, builderwho is in the early stages of putting together a short fuselage Pietenpolwith an A65 Cont. engine.>>I'm at the point of boxing in the fuselage. I was going the nostalgicroute with a Model A engine, which I have but had not yet had it rebuilt.Lucky for me in that I got a great deal on an A65 with only 10hrs SMOHcomplete with McCauley prop for less $ that it would have cost to rebuildthe Model A, add magneto, carb and prop.It didn't take two seconds to decideto change engines.>>Here now is the reason for contacting you.I've had conversation with MikeCuy who now is completing the same configureation and sugested that I talkto you.I also am one of those 200 plus pound builders who is concerned withthe tail heavy problems to cope with.>>Any insight you might be able to shed on this subject will be greatlyappreciated.>>Now I am a first time builder and am by no means any kind of an engineerbut in looking over the Don Pietenpol plans for the A65 engine mount whichhe shows on the long fuselage It seams to me that the way to adapt the A65to the short fuselage would be to make up the difference in fuselage lenghtswould be to extend the engine mounts by the difference. That is to say thedistance from firewall would go from 10 1/2" to 17 5/8". Am I all wet in mythinking?? How did you overcome this this problem?? And if the motor mountis extended, should the tubing be a larger diameter?? And finally, whatabout the landing gear? How far forward should it be moved ???>>Hope you don't mind all these questions but I could sure use some guidancein the right direction. My goal is to keep the cabane struts as vertical aspossible in their final configuration.>>>>Thanks in advance>>Joe Czaplicki>>Zion, Illinois>>>>>>>________________________________________________________________________________
