I agree with these comments. I just put my seat in (partially) and found it veryuncomfortable. It is too late for any design changes at this point for me.My only options are to install some sort of padding or to design and installa new seat (molded to my rear and back) and install over the top of the existingseat. Have seen one Piet with a sloping seat and Temperfoam to fit a fella aboutthe size of Capt. Buck Nekkid.......I would think that a seatback and it'sdiagonals sloped back to fit better wouldn't have a negative effect on thestructure. As long as that Pratt triangle there doesn't get too acute, whatthe hay?Earl Myers Sorry I couldn't link up with most of ya's at Oshkosh, couldn't find you?Too many people amongst the planes.-----Original Message-----

I agree with you that the seat back is too vertical (at least for me). Theplans show a seat back angle of about 9 degrees off vertical. I thinkBingelis's books recommend an angle of 15 degrees. When I made my mockupfuselage, I made an adjustable seat back to try out different settings. Ifound that 15 degrees indeed made a big difference. My decision was to movethe seat back 2 inches for a little more legroom, and increase the angle to15 degrees. I will make up some of the setback by using 1 inch ofTemperfoam for cushioning. I don't think I will have a CG problem as I am150 pounds.Would be interested in the comments of others.Al Swanson(SNIP)...several comments were made about the angle of the seats being tooverticle.>Am I correct in assuming that the seat back is not critical to structural>integrity? Several folks at Brodhead asked if my plane had the short or long, and Ireally had to answer that it was a "mid". The seat angle is the reason whyI went to a 4.5inch stretch of the short fuse. I angle my seat back andlowered the bottom and after the 47 hours I spent in the plane I am glad Idid. I don't know what the angle is, but it makes a big difference incomfort. Steve,I landed at my father's grass strip and visited (another way of saying Iworked the aches out of my butt) for a couple of days. My uncle lovesgarage sales to look for wood working tools. I walked into this garage andto my amazement, between the plywood on sawhorse tables covered withglasses, etc., was a partially built Piet on her gear with a price tag on her. Then, in North Carolina I landed at an airport and a fellow came up to findthe Piet that had landed. It seems he was building one. He had justretired next to the field. I went over the next morning to see his project... that he had started when he was in high school.I have more stories, but I won't bore the group. Suffice it to say thatwhen you fly a Piet cross country you have lots of opportunity to meet lotsof interesting people.Ted>HOW did you get to a garage sale in MI? >I agree with these comments. I just put my seat in (partially) and foundit very uncomfortable. It is too late for any design changes at this pointfor me. My only options are to install some sort of padding or to designand install a new seat (molded to my rear and back) and install over the topof the existing seat.
