Subject: Pietenpol-List: Pulling a corvair enginePiet Corvair people -I found a 65 Covair at the junkyard for a hundred bucks, only catch is I have to pull it out of the car. I have pulled bug engines before and have all the tools to do that. Question is do I need any special tools to pull this engine? Also, does anyone know if you can read the engine block number while still in the car? I have WW's manual.RickH________________________________________________________________________________

Standard SAE wrenches and sockets are all you need. The Engines drop out the bottom---Jackthe rear of the car and place on jackstands, undo all the bell housingto transaxle bolts you can get to, disconnect the starter, with the engineon an engine jack remove the rear motor mount, lower the engine about 6 inchesand you can get to the top bell housing and starter bolts. Well a littlemore than this but you can get the gist of it. Yes the block #'s are locatedjust forward of the oil filter/fuel pump casting.Jim DallasOwner of a pair of CorvairsBuilder of a Piet and Hatz----- Original Message -----
