THE WAIT IS OVER FOR SPORT PILOT!At long last, the sport pilot/light-sport aircraft rule has cleared itsfinal hurdle, as the rule package moved from the White House Office ofManagement and Budget (OMB) to FAA late Thursday. This is excellent newscoming right before the start of AirVenture, where we will have a chance tocelebrate the success of this new rule package and be able to answer themany questions from EAA members and other aviation enthusiasts who have beenwaiting with us for the emergence of the final rule. FAA has set a mediabriefing for Tuesday, July 20, to formally discuss the rule package withreporters, and EAA's Mary Jones will be attending that briefing. Inaddition, Doug Macnair and I will be in Washington next week to thank FAAAdministrator Marion Blakey and the entire FAA team that worked hard to makethis new opportunity for recreational aviation a reality. Also, EAA's SportPilot experts will be reading and analyzing the new rule as soon as it ispublished in the Federal Register next week, so we can provide accurateinformation regarding the new rule during AirVenture. The Sport Pilot tentin EAA Member Village will undoubtedly be a hub of activity during thefly-in. Sport pilot has long been a goal of the aviation community andprovides the first rulemaking package specifically written for recreationalflying. EAA is proud of its role to make personal flight more accessibleand build aviation's infrastructure through this new entry-level base forpilots. It gives aviation enthusiasts a way to focus on the basics offlying by lowering costs while enhancing safety and security considerations. The light-sport aircraft portion of the regulation, meanwhile, opens thedoor to more affordable aircraft. EAA led the charge for this rule over thepast decade to break down the barriers to safe, affordable and fun flying.Along the way, EAA helped forge an unprecedented partnership betweengovernment, industry and consumers that led to the creation of regulationsand aircraft standards that are intended to be both thorough and practical.________________________________________________________________________________

Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: I just got this from Cy Galley at EAAChris,Thanks for the long awaited news. Really sounds too good to be true. It's about what I should have expected coming through a month AFTER I passed 41CC onto better hands. Seems like I've always ended up sucking hind tit. Probably because of the compliments I've given the beauros and their cousin 3, 4, and 5letter organizations. I do want to publicly apologize to the FAA, EAA, AOPA forthe lack of faith and respect I've shown these last few years. Impatience is naughty thing. Seems like I have never used much.Anyway Chris, thanks again for thinking of me in relation to Sport Pilot. I hope this will inspire me to go to the shop and get busier on 311CC. Y'all havea good time at Brodhead.Corky________________________________________________________________________________
