Pietenpol-List: ferry gas tank installation

Hey guys, a new topic! My piet (model A) has a wing tank which holes 12.5 gallons. Since it isa tailskid plane I'll be limited to grass strips on any cross countriesI might try, like to Brodhead (Lord willing!)I can see that carrying some extra fuel in the front cockpit could comein very handy, and I was thinking it would be VERY handy if I couldtransfer fuel from that tank to my wing tank in flight.I was thinking that it should be easy enough to use a boat type gas tankwith an inline handpump to pump fuel up to the wing where an inlite tubecould be welded/brazed in the filler neck. When I wasn't using thissystem, this inlet tube in the neck would have a screw on cap.It sounds fairly straight forward, am I missing something that wouldcause problems? I know the cockpit tank has to be well secured as thathas caused problems in the past. IF the inlet tube is in the gas tankneck, it won't interfere with the workings of the tank, and I'll stillhave the forward facing vent in the slipstream. Fly until the wing tankis low, then pump, pump, pump until it is full again and not have todeviate to find a grass strip and go into town for auto fuel.fire away...ThanksDouwe________________________________________________________________________________

DouweYou might want to try the following fuel test. Bring your tail up tolevel, climb in and sit for 2 hours. You can listen to the radio andlook around, but after 2 hours, ask yourself how much fuel do youreally need?Dick N. ----- Original Message -----
