Pietenpol-List: Touching bases...

Hi Shawn,I saw your posting on the Pietenpol list regarding winter flying and it brought back memories of some mighty cold winter days when I used to fly my Piet on skis. In fact, I flew its initial test flights on skis in November 1970...but I was younger and tougher then. As you observed, the Pietenpol is an excellent skiplane with good lift at low speeds. It is easy to make good landings because one can hear the heels of the skis dragging on the snow surface. Or, by watching your shadow when the sun is off to one side (at a typically low angle in winter), one can "cheat" a little.Did you make your planned trip out to B.C. this past summer? The poor little Midget Mustang is still sitting in that hangar, covered with dust and bird droppings. Did that fellow ever come to look at it, or get in touch with Brad?Good to hear you are still actively flying the Pietenpol. I flew mine for only about 15 hours over the summer. I'll maybe fly it this weekend and change the oil. If the weather is favorable, I'd like to fly it on November 15th to mark the 36th anniversary of its first flight.Cheers,Graham________________________________________________________________________________Date: Sat, 07 Oct 2006 00:56:31 -0700
