I received my Airworthiness Ceertificate for my Piet last week. I used a localDesignee whose standard charge is $300 plus mileage. When we scheduled the inspectionhe said that he might have his supervisor along to supervise the inspection. My first thought was that he was liable to be extra picky with his FAAsupervisor looking over his shoulder. On the day of the inspection the Designeeand the FAA supervisor both showed up. The inspection went quite smoothly. The paperwork was in order, and they did not find any fault with the aircraftother than spotting two nuts that had not been safetied. They did have afew constructive suggestions on minor items. When I received the C of A I gotout my checkbook to pay the Designee but he said "I can not charge for a supervisedinspection. I have to do supervised inspections periodically to maintainmy status and I am not allowed to charge for them." I lucked in on that one.The FAA is pushing the recommendation that homebuilts have ELTs during the testperiod even though they recognize that the regulations do not require it. Iwas not going to install one until my time was flown off, but I have gone aheadand purchased one. I think I am going to mount it on the floor of the rearpit, but I have not figured out where the antenna will go.Between the need for more tailwheel time, the weather in Michigan, and my travelschedule, I suspect I will not get my first flight in until Spring, but we shallsee.Bob HumbertBattle Creek, MIN491RHI received my Airworthiness Ceertificate for my Piet last week.
