Pietenpol-List: leave hangar doors locked
Re: Pietenpol-List: Wing strut fitting question

Rick:My two cents on the photos of the strut fitting and the bending of the 4130. I highly recommend is thatbefore bending the metal is to polish the edges. This will help in the arena of cracks that can form during the bending process or later in flight. Also check the grain direction of the metal and bend perpendicular to it.Bruce Kirk "Rick Holland" wrote:> Guys> > Am attempting to make my top wing strut fittings >(bending .090" strap around> a piece of tubing), in advance of receiving my struts >from Jack. Re: Pietenpol-List: checkingSunday was a beautiful day for flying in Minnesota, I went out for a chilly but nice flight. The big story for the weekend was Sat was gusty up to 20+. A float plane tried to land on a lake close by. They caught a wave in a bad way and it ripped the floats off the plane. The 2 women riding in the rear seats were ejected into the water. The pilot was able to keep the plane flying and he and his front seat passenger made a emergency landing at a nearby airport on the belly. A fisherman was close by the women in the water and picked them up one had a broken leg. All in all a pretty happy ending.Dick N. ----- Original Message -----
