Jeff; in the repair and rebuild of sections of 41CC I had occasion to remove varnish in many places but none of them very extensively. My experience is therefore limited and I'm certainly no woodworker, but all I did was sand away the varnish before epoxying and I believe all of the new joints came out nice and tight.Varnish is quite thin though, so I'm sure it goes way deeper than sanding will remove. Jeff,A heat gun is a must when removing varnish. With a little practice you will learn to heat the varnish just to the point it becomes "gummy" and it will scrape right off with a scraper.
