Hey,I'm using dope on my plane and was wondering if I can use enamel for thesmall tail numbers.I know it'll stick fine, but I'm wondering if it'll flake off over time oris it pliable enough to use there.I know sign painters enamel works, I'm wondering about randolf enamel.Douwe________________________________________________________________________________Date: Fri, 24 Apr 2009 22:46:56 -0400

Hey Douwe,I'd bet you might have some trouble with enamel over time. There may be a flexagent that you could add though. If you have a NAPA nearby they may be ableto help you out. They used to have a flex agent you could add for painting thingslike vinyl car seats and urethane bumpers. Might be worth looking into. It's hard to go wrong with "1 Shot". You probably know it's a sign painter's paint. It works great on dope. Flexible and adheres really well. I have a dealernear me, if there is some way I might be able to help out with that let meknow. A really cool thing is that it comes off with "Easy Off" oven cleanerwithout harming the dope, just in case there is a mistake. When I visited there this time last year there was a lot of aviation activity in the area, for the size of the population.Gene ----- Original Message -----

Kind of late noticing/responding to this one, but I have always painted small numbers with an enamel spray can. As long as the numbers are going to be a generic color, like white or black, I see no reason why not. The spray can numbers have been on my Travel Air rudder for nearly twenty years (cotton and dope) and is still as flexible as the day I painted it. No cracking or peeling. I have done this on a number of fabric aircraft with both dope and poly spray and never had a problem.Gene ----- Original Message -----
