Subject: Pietenpol-List: Gary Boothe's progress Gary-- every little step that you take forward like you butt ribs being complete3dfor the center section and the metall attachement fittings areALL GREAT signs of step-by-step progress that you are making toward the day thatyour new Pietenpol is surrounded by onlookers trying to gethe first look at YOUR new Pietnepol at Brodhead ! Every litttle step of progresslike that is awe inspiring and makes you feel like "yes-- someday I toocan join in the group of pilots who have actually BUILT, FLOWN IN, and LANDED MYairplane on the hallowed grounds of that little podunk airport thathas become all too familiar to us followers as the birthplace of new Pietenpols. I am forever impressed by the wonderful new planes that you gents arecranking out and I hope to live to be 90 to be there to watch the Pietenpol torchbe passed ala the Olympics to newer and newer generations of lowand slow flyers. What a joy in my next 20-30 years it will be to see the up andcoming Pietenpol builders build, create, test fly, and impress the living crap out of the glasspanel nundnicks at Oshkosh where biblically the "foolishshall confound the wise" !! I love it ! Long live der PietenpolAir Camper, GN-1, and variants thereof. Mike C. Cleveland, OH________________________________________________________________________________

GarySo nice to hear you finally have the butt ribs and the fittings done. However, I'm sorry to say, my center section is almost finished and ALL my ribs are built. Wing construction will start this week. I thought I felt you breathing down my neck but it was just the dog.ChrisSacramento, CAWestCoastPiet.com----- Original Message -----

It is only recently that I've had the luxury of working inhalf of a "real" hangar. Up until then, I worked out ofmy half of a standard 2-car garage so I know what crowdedmeans. I had racks overhead for long pieces of materialand stuff stashed under the building table, on pegs on thewall, and everywhere I could find an available inch ofspace. However, there is something to be said for workingin a compact shop- there is very little walking to do whengoing to get a tool, because everything is right there bydefinition. And the shop is easier to cool in the summerand heat in the winter. But the best part of all is thatwhen you do finally roll up the garage door and you get tomove the wing or fuselage out into the light of day, itis a real great feeling... almost like it is being born.I drive 18 min. each way from my house to the hangar andthat is really terrific as some of you guys who have todrive an hour or more know. It's a deterrent to buildingor flying when you have to plan ahead for the thing justbecause the hangar or shop is so far away. When youbuild in your garage (or basement, or attic, or the shopin your back yard), it's a spur-of-the-moment thing. Youcan trot out to your project in flip-flops and shortsand get with it, with the result that you can scratch theitch on the spot. More gets done that way.Oh, and before I forget- that was a GREAT video, Jack! Ifound myself watching the control surfaces and cables asmuch as the scenery on the ground, to see how your airplane is rigged and how things work in flight. It wasthat way watching Mike Cuy's "smoking runs" video, too-I watch the cables and controls and the airplane's responseas much as I do the fun flying stuff.
