Hey everybody,When people post photos, I don't get a link of anything like that. When Igo to "matronics photo share", the most current photo is Steve Eldridge'spatch photos from months ago. I''d love to keep up with everybody'sprogress, and maybe even post some of my own, so I thought I'd better ask.Douwe________________________________________________________________________________Date: Sun, 22 Mar 2009 05:57:43 -0700 (PDT)

My lift, cabanes and jury struts are wood. They're a sandwich; spruce-1/4ply-spruce. I don't recall the exact thickness, but they're copied fromAlan Wise's who's flown hundreds and hundreds of hours with his. I believethe only metal he used was steel strap sandwiched in the jury struts, whichis what I did. Won't do anything in compression, but will be helpful intension.Just tracked down a guy up north who's piet I noticed had wooden struts inan old back issue of the newsletter. Finally talked to him and he's donethe same thing with no problems whatsoever. I know Gary (now Keri-Ann)Price's used wood struts, but they DID have square tubing inside, so thewood was really cosmetic.I like your idea of hiding the lines etc inside the cabanes. Rather thanbulking it up further, why don't you rout a channel and epoxy a thin walledsteel tube in there to act as a conduit? The tube would more than make upfor the material routed out.I'll send you a picture of my struts offline since I still can't figure outhow to send or view photos.Douwe________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: how do I view photos

Hey Jim:I just read and went to the power toys site to download the picture seizer. Unfortunately, the first paragraph states that those applications will not work with VISTA. Too bad since they look very interesting. But thanks for the info anyhow. How it the Piet coming?Bob in Indy.----- Original Message -----

Dave,Good idea about building the ribs this winter. I was not so organized andhave been fighting that hurdle for over a year. The rest of the plane isjust too much fun to build!!I am using mostly poplar, and love working with it. However, I built thetail parts first out of hemlock and really liked that, too. Having not used any cedar, yet, I can't comment on that, but give bothpoplar and pine a big thumbs up.Gary BootheCool, Ca.PietenpolWW Corvair Conversion, mountedTail done, Fuselage on gearWorking on center section (and kitchen)(15 ribs down.)-----Original Message-----

I'm with you. My cables are all done except wing relatedones as I don't have those done. As soon as I've finishedmy tank I can start on the brakes. As soon as they're doneI can move it all to a local field. Probably next spring or summer.I don't suppose anyone knows where I can get wiring infofor a Collins mode C transponder. I haven't had any luck on the internet yet.Clif Correction to an earlier post I made in haste (would that be "post haste"). I am using 7 x19 galvanized through out. Mine is not flight tested, but I am following the lead of others who have. I tried some 1 x 19 and decided it wasn't worth the PIA. Red Cedar, because of it's low density, is only 2/3 thestrength of Spruce. In other words if you wanted touse it in place of a 1" wide spruce or hemlock sparyou would have to make it 1 1/2" wide.Port orford is completely different from red. PortOrford is actually stronger than spruce.Clif----- Original Message -----
