Pietenpol-List: log your test maneuvers

My FAA inspector told me something which may interest those of us startingor in the flight test phase. He said to be sure you log every test maneuver as you do it, like "70 degreebank", or "gross weight flown" etc because insurance companies have beenknown to deny coverage if the pilot cannot "prove" from the logbook thatwhatever maneuver they were in during the incident had been accomplishedbefore, within the test area. He said even after your test phase is done, you can go back into the test area, do the maneuvers, log them and you'regood to go.Seemed like valuable info.Douwe________________________________________________________________________________

Gene; the engine swap is documented on mywebsite, here:http://www.flysquirrel.net/piets/engine/A75.htmlThe engine runs strong and smooth, the swapwent quite well with very few hitches, andthis will be the first summer I get to flythe A75 in the heat to see how much differenceit will make in climb capability.Oscar ZunigaAir Camper NX41CCSan Antonio, TXmailto: taildrags(at)hotmail.comwebsite at http://www.flysquirrel.net ________________________________________________________________________________Date: Thu, 11 Mar 2010 08:49:26 -0600Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: log your test maneuvers

Myron,If you purchased the full set of Pietenpol plans (including the three-piece wingplan), you will see both versions of the spar (1" thick, and 3/4" thick). Theoriginal design was 1" thick, with routed sections to reduce weight. This wasthe spar drawn in the FGM drawings as well as in the 1933/34 Improved Air Camperdrawings. Later, BHP switched to a 3/4" thick spar, with NO routed sections. The 3/4" spar is only shown in the drawing for the three-piece wing. The3/4" non-routed spar has approximately 90% the strength of the routed 1" spar(in simple bending). Both have been proven to be more than adequate in strength.Which one to use is strictly up to you.Your ribs can be built to accommodate the 1" spar, and then, later, if you decideto use 3/4" spars, just add 1/2" wide, 1/8" plywood spacer shims at each riblocation. Or, if you know for certain that you want to use the 3/4" spar, buildyour ribs to suit, and eliminate the little bit of extra weight and work ofthe shims.Bill C.Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Fri, 12 Mar 2010 12:20:29 -0500Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: log your test maneuvers

Subject: Pietenpol-List: 1/2" web idea. Spar options--one man's methodMyron, Group----here is how I did my spar and how I would do it again proposed in the attached sketch. I did a cost analysis of both methods and it was pretty much a wash as I recall with the proposed methodbeing way less work by not having to route out U-channels in those upper and lower 'caps'.Mike C.________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: 1/2" web idea.
