Guys: I cannot thank you enough, for all the comments; Boyce, where have you beenhiding? Get that darn MII done, before you know it, it will fly faster thanyou can think! I will begin the project in earnest sometime after the holidays; seems, Nancy hasa few 'honey-do this first', that need to be done. If my guess is right this group will prove to be just like the Mustang II buildersgroup, I had belonged to during my build and flight; a true asset to any project!Again, thanks, and Merry Christmas to all.HD Rose--------HD RoseRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Newbie with Piet questions......

Hi all I am a newbie to the Pietenpole. I am a 19 yr old private pilot who justgot my license in a J3 Cub. I've been wanting to build a plane for years, havinghelped build ones in the past and the Pietenpole with a Corvair fits the bill.Especially that I found one for sale. Wings, fuse and tail for $300. Thebuilder got alzheimers and his son is taking care of him and wants to get ridof some of his plane projects. What all should I look for when I go to look atit? Any spot in particular? From what he told me he is a very expericenced planebuilder but what should I look for as far as work quality? Thanks in advanceeveryone......Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Mon, 10 Dec 2012 17:21:27 -0500

It's great you will get some local help. To be honest I would make sure the work is good enough you will use it. I bought a project and only used the wheels after rebuilding them. Look at everything very close...type of wood, correct grain and orientation, glue joints, built to plans, 4130 metal, fittings well made, aircraft cable the correct size and fittings...lots of things to check!Sent from my iPadJack TextorOn Dec 10, 2012, at 5:45 PM, Gary Boothe wrote:> Charles,> > Congratulations on accomplishing such a milestone at a young age! Thanks for the input everyone. The seller (builder's son) seems sort of clueless as far as technical details go. He just wants to unload it. I'm going to go into this project with my eyes wide open with a previous builder along too.......For $300 it's still worth a look........ Will keep you posted on results....... ----- Original Message -----

Oscar,It is quite common for the float needle to stick on these engines. Before youspend too much time doing a bunch of trouble shooting, try this. Take a wood handledhammer and while using the butt end, give the carb a few good taps justabove where the mixture control is . That is where you will see the two half'sof the carb body. I'm sure that is all you will need to do. I see it happenall the time when an engine sits any length of time. My friend had to do thisevery time he flew. Of coarse he only flew a few times a year. Let me know how it goes,Cheers,--------Scott LiefeldFlying N11MS since March 1972Steel TubeC-85-12Wire WheelsBrodhead in 1996Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Newbie with Piet questions......

Hi Charles.Welcome to the group. I'm the guy that Scott mentioned. If our schedules can mesh,I'd be glad to offer any assistance I can. After building and studying theplans for about 8 years, one tends to get pretty familiar with the details.Feel free to contact me offlist when you have some details firmed up, or ifyou just have questions.Bill C.Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Tue, 11 Dec 2012 19:03:52 -0800 (PST)

Andy;If your Stromberg has the mixture adjustment parts installed, I would assume thatyou can adjust the mixture. Most of them have the mixture wired full richor have had the adjustment parts removed though. The operating manuals for many aircraft that had the mixture adjustment said notto adjust the mixture below about 5000 ft. There is some good technical informationavailable about the mixture control on these carbs, but I have forgottenwhere to find it. I just checked the Fly Baby site, but did not find it there.--------Oscar ZunigaMedford, ORAir Camper NX41CC "Scout"A75 powerRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Tue, 11 Dec 2012 22:13:57 -0700Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Re: Stromberg mixture
