Subject: Pietenpol-List: George in AustraliaGeorge-are you on the island of Tasmania? That is where good friend and Piet builder Simon McCormack and familylive. Simon has a gorgeous red and cream Ford Piet. He and his wife Susan are making the trip to Brodhead and Oshkoshfor the very first time this summer! I've been pen pals with Simon since around 1994 and really looking forward to seeinghim and watch his face when he finally sees what Brodhead and Oshkosh are really like.Mike C.________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Pietenpol-List: BFR review

You can build offset into it as well.Mike C.[cid:image001.jpg(at)01CE110B.93346500]________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: BFR review

Nice idea posting some of the basics like this... I am not only building the dreadedRiblett airfoil, I'm building the FATTER one, the Riblett GA-30-613.5 version(as Harry Riblett would continue to correct me as we discussed the airfoilon the phone one day...).I cut a profile of the modified airfoil with an exaggerated bend on the top andbottom of the airfoil with a CNC machine, and put some holes in it for pins tobe placed that held the bungie cord "clamps" I used. (Pictures if I get a chance...).Here's the "high-tech", harder than it has to be (but I did it anyway and that'swhy it's taking me years to build the plane") method I used for soaking thecap strips on the ribs I have so far:I built a soaking tube out of PVC pipe, capped on end, and put a slip cap on theother with a vacuum tube fitting on it. I put an "o" ring in the cap and filledthe tube 1/2 way with water. Dropped 6-8 capstrips in, sealed the tube andflipped on the vacuum pump for an hour or so. Pressure sucked the water intothe wood a bit more than just soaking, and I haven't had a strip crack yet puttingit on the bending jig. But, a bathtub, hot tub, or just soaking it overnight is easier and works as wellI think. But the steam kettle-PVC system looks cool!My .02....MarkRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: BFR review

You know Mike, you outta get the award for "best ambassador of Pietenpol's" inshort clip movies, but I am not sure the Academy grants such an award. Perhapswe can suggest one?Regardless, how nice it must be to have such a recognizable representation of aniconic plane. And, to have helped so many follow suit!MarkRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________
