Pietenpol-List: Question about Continetal Engine Mount

Post by matronics »

AllI have a question about the plans for the continental engine mount. The 4mounting points on the engine side of the mount call for "Ream for 7/16 inchbolts". According to my continental overhaul manual, the mounting bolts forthe A series is a 3/8 inch bolt. Also, in one of the Bengalis' books itshows a 3/8th inch bolt. So, what size do I make the hole for the bolts on the engine mount? ChrisSacramento, CaWestcoastpiet.com________________________________________________________________________________

Chris; I was just out to the hangar and I confirmed that my engine mount boltsare AN6 (3/8")... A65/75 Continental. Now I don't know how snugly AN6 bolts fitin a 3/8" drilled hole, so you may need to do a little research on that. Thereare rubber donuts on the engine mounts that the bolts pass through and thoseare not a problem, but I don't know how tight a fit an AN6 bolt is in a 3/8"hole, thus (possibly) the reason for reaming the holes to 7/16". That justseems too sloppy a fit though.--------Oscar ZunigaMedford, ORAir Camper NX41CC "Scout"A75 powerRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

Thanks Oscar.Every where I look calls for an AN6 bolt (3/8"). I even checked the GN-1plans and they have a 3/8th inch bolt. Digging through my scrap pile Ifound I have some thick wall tubing that will let me weld the engine mountand ream or bush it to the AN6 or AN7 size. I am leaning to the AN6 bolt. Thanks again for being the only one to answer a building question.ChrisSacramento, CaWestcoastpiet.com-----Original Message-----
