No secret Ray,Thanks for the kind words!I wanted to replicate the old doped linen look which I find beautiful as thelight comes through it.It sounds like the plane you are referring to is probably Dick's Rotecpowered Piet. Ours are a bit different from eachother.I used ceconite and traditional dope. The dope was all clear however, whichI tinted using standard artist powdered pigments. I experimented on scrapuntil found the right strength. Each sprayed coat added a tiny bit of coloruntil I had the right number of coats and the right tint. I did add UVprotector to the dope to help some. The green is latex on the ceconite and auto enamel on the cowling and metal.I figure my plane will always be hangared and will only see a few hours ofsunlight a year, so I won't worry about UV damage for a few decades.Douwe________________________________________________________________________________

Douwe,Thanks for the response to your non secret paint formula. My dad owned a hobby shop when I was young and we built LOTS of air planes. Our shop and home always smelled of nitrate and butyrate dope, we sold it in bulk. I love the smell, but it gives me a terrible me a terrible headache! I don't think I have enough brain reserve at this stage of my life to use the dope again!Has anyone found a clear latex-like product with UV protection? Stewart's, maybe? I agree with you about the plane not being in the UV light enough to disintegrate during our life times. I talked to the Stewart's rep here in our area and he said they have an adhesive now that is not colored green, just for those who want to go "natural". He did not know about a clear final coat.Looking forward to you Broadhead flight adventures. Thanks again,Ray Krause SkyScout coming along.Sent from my iPadOn Jul 30, 2013, at 6:10 AM, "Douwe Blumberg" wrote:> No secret Ray,> > Thanks for the kind words!> > I wanted to replicate the old doped linen look which I find beautiful as the light comes through it.> > It sounds like the plane you are referring to is probably Dick=99s Rotec powered Piet.
