Pietenpol-List: FAA Inspection....

First off, congrats Bob on your progress, she's looking more and more likean airplane. I gotta get up and visit.Secondly, re cockpit steps. I had never thought I'd put one on, and myplane's first version didn't have any. I'm pretty flexible and getting inwasn't a big deal. However, when I had to rebuild the plane, I did add astep for the rear cockpit, mainly thinking of resale or getting older andfind that I'm really glad I did. It just makes it easier. Now I wish I hadinstalled one for the front pit too.I'm sure any design will work, though the recessed ones certainly arecleaner.D________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Pietenpol-List: FAA Inspection....

Any tips on how to light a fire under these guys? Thenice weather is going to be gone and ill have to wait another 6 months. Maybeme whining about it will trigger some psychic vibe and they will call today!--------NX321LRON THE FINAL PUSH!!Mitsubishi PoweredRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Thu, 5 Sep 2013 13:01:33 -0400

That's the Down Side, Chris. The Up Side being that the inspection is free.My experience with my local FAA guy was just the opposite, so I guess it's aregional thing, possibly depending on how close or far you are from thenearest office. Still, I gotta think your time is getting close...Gary BootheNX308MB-----Original Message-----

I thought about a little one in the nose, and how to use it.One is fill the nose tank with the wing one, and connect the nose one to the gascolator;this option need a vent from the nose tank to the wing one, isn't it?the other option is a 3 way valve that connect the wing, nose and gas colator, one position, wing gascolator, second position, nose gascolator. this one is simplerbecause I avoid the vent from nose to wing. I think there is no troublewith the second one if avoid conect nose with wing--------Mario GiacummoPhotos here: http://goo.gl/wh7M4Little Blog : http://vgmk1.blogspot.comRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ttachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/dsc0 ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: FAA Inspection....

Really? Fifteen hundred bucks?!! Have you considered flying the plane TO HIMto save on the auxillary fees? Just sayin'.When my dad got his Hatz inspected (by the FAA), the guy asked him what all therubber bands were in the wings, "uh, do you mean the rib stitching?" says dad.Wow...When I got my CFI (via the military competency test, which is nothing more thanthat, just a simple multiple choice fifty question test from their test questionbank) it cost about a hundred fifty bucks to schedule it being administeredthrough a local college since they don't do that anymore. I got my commercial/instrumentthe same way, military competency test, but then you could walkinto a FSDO and take the test for free, only took about 10 minutes of interactionwith an inspector (about three of which were for this test, hand it to me,thirty minutes later grade it with the classic punched hole overlay, not a lotof work!).What DO they do? Of course, it's like the old saying goes, just be happy we don'tget all the government we pay for...Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

Mario,Also, I LIKE the drawing of your idea a lot. I didn't fully understand the littledropped pickup point you did mention. If that were nearly a gallon or two,it would really act like a header tank, especially if baffled well.Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: FAA Inspection....

Paul,My wheels are Hayes and are original airplane from the late 1920's. Back in theday they measured the wheels by the total height of the tire. I have nevermeasured them that way. With that said, I use a motor cycle tire size 3:50 x16. The 16" tires are getting harder to find. I had to special order the lastones. Since I don't have any brakes the tires last a very long time. The previousset lasted about 14 years I think. The tread was still good but had somesidewall cracking issues. I would look for a size that is currently popularon motorcycles so you don't end up with rare hard to find tires in 20 years.--------Scott LiefeldFlying N11MS since March 1972Steel TubeC-85-12Wire WheelsBrodhead in 1996Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: FAA Inspection....

Well folks, the FAA came yesterday and did the inspection and all went real good, only a few small things that needed attention, i fixed those up last nightand we are ready to fly. He made me feel real good when he said I should teachhomebuilding, he really liked the plane and engine choice. My test pilot is outatown till Sunday, so be ready as I hope to have something to report on Monday.I am real nervous to get this first flight under our belts.--------NX321LRON THE FINAL PUSH!!Mitsubishi PoweredRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Thu, 26 Sep 2013 09:39:24 -0700Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Re: FAA Inspection....

Congratulations to both!!Chris - I totally understand your being nervous. First flight for my Pietwas with a very experienced pilot, whose abilities I did not question.I onlyquestioned my own ability to build. Would the wing collapse? Would theengine quit? Would the gear hold up? Would the prop fly apart?...etc.etc.Gary BootheNX308MB

Yes, getting the green light on your inspection is excellent news and hope thefirst flights are uneventful, Chris. A lot of people are anxious to hear howthe MitsuPietshi climbs and flies. For my part, the only regulatory news I have is that I passed my BFR so I'm goodfor two more years. My first time to fly a glass cockpit (Garmin G1000 in anew Cessna 172). It's amazing how quickly you can climb to 7500' when you have180HP to play with. Oh, and my first time to fly with a Bose ANC headset.Incredibly quiet. All of those things are antithetical to Pietenpoling though.--------Oscar ZunigaMedford, ORAir Camper NX41CC "Scout"A75 powerRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________
