Pietenpol-List: Turnbuckles for sale?

Post by matronics »

I was just over to Vi's today. We were examining a couple of our wood carvings( propellers. ) Vi does have a few hours on his new ship. He reports that hehas a problem with the carb. He stated that it idles to fast ( 850 RPM ),and that creates a problem during landing because he tends to float in groundeffect when he would rather be sticking a three pointer. He is also working onthe installation of a starter for the Model A Ford. Plans to use a motorcyclebattery and figures he will find a place to put it. Vi is now 86 years oldand says he would like to stick around at least until 90. Knees hurt a littlebit, has a problem with a heart valve, doesn't like to sit around and watchsoap operas so he will just stay busy working on all things Pietenpol. Sure isa nice guy to have in your back yard.DanRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Turnbuckles for sale?

Ray; let me see what I have in the hangar. I bought some earlier this year, butthey may be too small for what you need. Get with me off-list to let me knowhow many you need and what size/configuration.--------Oscar ZunigaMedford, ORAir Camper NX41CC "Scout"A75 powerRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

Oscar, Michael, Douwe,Do Piet builders ordinarily use turnbuckles on the stabilizers, or just cut thecable to fit and twist the cable to tension it? I was planning on using the short6-40 thread turnbuckles there, but maybe it is not necessary? One could MAYBEavoid some drag, weight and airflow disruption by using just the cable?I will still need six more of the 10-32 thread 4.5" long barrels (AN 155-16S) eachwith cable ends (AN140 assembly) or one cable end and one pin eye end (AN135assembly). There is no real hurry on these, I probably will not need them until I do the pre-coveringrigging in maybe mid January. Thanks for your help.Ray KrauseSkyScoutSent from my iPad> On Dec 3, 2013, at 9:02 PM, "taildrags" wrote:> > > Ray; let me see what I have in the hangar. I built my ribs and tail parts years ago and have them stored in the basement. Recently I found mold spots on them. They are not yet varnished. What should I do about the mold, ignore it and paint over it, bleach it off, or what?Dennis________________________________________________________________________________Date: Thu, 5 Dec 2013 11:00:41 -0600Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: mold

Ditch the David Clark's and all the associated electronics, wires, weight, complicationand one more source of irritation. Take a leap and fly the 1930's aeroplane like it's 1930 with a basic leather helmetor a newsboy hat worn backwards with your goggle strap holding it on or,heaven forbid, you would ever dare to fly with a bare head!!!!!--------L.V.WilliamsXCG, XCMR,EPPUSHPA, EAA, AMARead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: mold

Mold fungi live principally on the surface of wood and discolor it.However, they dont consume cellulose and therefore dontweaken the wood. So ....How to Kill Mold with VinegarTo kill mold with vinegar, use white distilled vinegar which you can buy cheaplyfrom the supermarket.Pour some vinegar into a spray bottle without watering it down.Spray the vinegar onto the moldy surface and leave it to sit for an hour.Wipe clean the area with water and allow the surface to dry. Any smell from thevinegar should clear within a few hours. If you want to use vinegar to prevent mold growing on surfaces just spray vinegaron the surface and leave it. Repeat this every few days to ensure the surfacewill stay mold-free ... and its all natural.Hope this helps,WF2--------Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

I used the Lynx helmet and headset when I flew powered parachutes and will likelyuse it during the first 40 hours of flying in my Piet. I do like the leatherand will go that way eventually.--------John FrancisRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ttachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/07_r ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Project for sale
