I was a section leader when I flew in the Marine Corps but I know nothing aboutsection moduli. Let us know what you find out. I would be curious to know how aluminum tubing compareswith 1018 steel. FWIW, those screenshots came from onlinemetals.com--------Semper Fi,Terry HandAthens, GARead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: A65 Rose Bowl cut outs

Gentlemen Hi.I have just had made new aluminium front cowling 'rose bowl'.The lower half was manufactured with no cut outs or holes.Do I need to cut out the one or two holes I've observed on other aircraft suchas J3's or can I just leave as complete? The A65 install has so much air passing through the engine compartment it hardlyseems necessary.ThanksGerry________________________________________________________________________________Date: Sun, 16 Feb 2014 13:28:54 -0800 (PST)

Ben; that cutout does look kinda cute! I'll bet the skullcap spinner on the propadds at least 5 MPH to your top speed, too! ;o) By the way, is that the pitottube out there on the port side wing, near the strut attachment? I couldn'tsee anything else that might be it in the photo.--------Oscar ZunigaMedford, ORAir Camper NX41CC "Scout"A75 powerRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

Ben,Is your "Rose Bowl" made of metal, or fiberglass? If fiberglass, did you make the"mold"? If metal, how did you do it?Thanks,Ray KrauseStruggling with my "Rose Bowl" for SkyScout.Sent from my iPad> On Feb 19, 2014, at 6:06 AM, Ben Charvet wrote:> > Why make it a horizontal cutout? Neither of those openings should have anythingto do with cooling the engine or oil sump. However, the J-3 does not have apressure cowl so there is cooling air entering through the eyebrows, sweepingdown over the cylinders, the out the bottom of the cowling after going aroundthe oil sump and carb.>> >> I think you can dispense with any additional cutouts. I think Gerry calls his a "Rose Bowl" because it's on a Rose Parrakeet. I guessours could be called a "Pieten Bowl" ;o)--------Oscar ZunigaMedford, ORAir Camper NX41CC "Scout"A75 powerRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: A65 Rose Bowl cut outs
