Dave, I see thatyouarenot a heavyweight, but you aught to consider building yourfuselage 26 inches wide instead of 24. It sure helps for the comfort and doesn't,add that much weight. Gardiner Mason. Up where you live you candress more warmly? Okay, so I'm a little slow these days. Been working nights and weekends to keepup at my day job. However, I wanted to say that there is no comparison betweenthe tail hinge fittings that Dave McBride has made and the Vi Kapler stylehinges that I now make and sell using Vi's jigs and castings. Knowing now whatit takes to produce a set of these hinges by hand, I see a lot of work in Dave'shinges. I do have two questions though, Dave. (1) How come you have 10hinges? A typical set has 3 per control surface. A spare-? (2) Have you weigheda set of hinges, and how much do they weigh? I'm curious to know becauseyours look pretty beefy.By the way, I have managed to finish and send out two sets of hinges from the newrun of castings. Thanks to everyone who asked for a set... I'm getting themout slowly. I think Bill Budgell and John Hofmann (or was it John Recine?)are next in line. If anyone is dead in the water unless you get hinges to keepyou going on your build, let me know. Otherwise, I'll keep the normal Pietenpolpace, which is "Low And Slow Since 1929".--------Oscar ZunigaMedford, ORAir Camper NX41CC "Scout"A75 powerRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Mon, 6 Apr 2015 08:01:35 -0400 (GMT-04:00)

Its too bad I'm such a chicken. My latex painted Piet is only a little over an hour east of LAL. I flew in a few years ago, but after checking that off my bucket list I'm content to driveSent from my iPhone> On Apr 3, 2015, at 9:42 AM, gliderx5(at)comcast.net wrote:> > I will be at Sun N Fun this year.> I'm presenting a forum on Tuesday at noon in classroom 11, on "Painting Homebuilt Airplanes with Latex Paint".> This will be my first trip to the event so I pretty excited. Oscar,It was about 20hrs machining and figuring out the process. I made 11 total, onefrom scrap 6061 as proof of concept, and 10 out of 2024T3 aluminum. I was planningon using the best 9 out of the bunch and have a spare if they all turnedout good. They are way over built and weigh somewhere around 6oz. Undecided ifi am going to use them.--------David McBride Rochester, NY dmcb84(at)hotmail.comRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: new builder upstate NY

I used an engine cleaning gun with soap and water to hose off the heavy stuff. It was coated in oil, caked in dirt, with aerokroil, wd40, AV30 from disassembly.Thensoaked it in stoddard solvents, and wire brushed them. Finished with amini dremel with brush attachments and q-tips for the nooks and crannies. I willeventually be doing this again when i find another core to disassembly forparts.--------David McBride Rochester, NY dmcb84(at)hotmail.comRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ttachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/2015 ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Mark Chouinard

Hi Charles, and thanks for the compliments. I do poke around here from time to time, but made a decision a couple of yearsago that it was more productive to build rather than talk about it. I find thisparticular medium to be extremely beneficial, especially to a new builder whois willing to search for answers... aside from that it is a good place to argueabout a lot of things that just don't matter. Lots of rude comments andhurt feelings around here recently. Oh, not mine... my skin is thicker than most, but I just don't find much of it to be of use to my personal goals. I havefriends here, so I'm not pointing fingers at anyone in particular, just myobservation of the nature and tone. There is a FB Pietenpol group that sharespics, status updates and general "motivational" posts that doesn't go into allthe ridiculous back and forth that commonly occurs here. That's more my styleat this point, not to mention that it is much more user friendly than the mailinglist format. Anyhow, I popped in here while I was eating my lunch... not sure when I'll be backthrough. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, but be aware thatmy ship is not flying yet. Oh, she'll fly, but I've tested nothing except forrunning the engine at this point.--------Mark ChouinardAll framed up... working on rigging.Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: new builder upstate NY

Hi Semih,I looked in FAA AC4313 and they don't provide the measurements you ask for. Onlythat there is a gauge to use. I have found the gauge in the Aircraft Sprucecatalog. It is part number "P/N GA-1P" and is $11.00 in my 2012 catalog. I hopethis helps you. Great question.Happy building,--------Scott LiefeldFlying N11MS since March 1972Steel TubeC-85-12Wire WheelsBrodhead in 1996Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: new builder upstate NY
