Pietenpol-List: CG question

Craig, (and others)In addition to moving the wing back did you have to add any weight inthe nose of the A/C. Moving my wing back to 3.75 inches fromperpendicualar puts my cg right at 20 inches from the le of the wing. Iweigh 210lbs. Putting full fuel in brings it to 18 inches. Accordingto the buckeye page cg article loaded cg's extend back as far as 22inches. Think I should move the wing back further? Or add some weightin the engine compartment.thoughts?Stevee.________________________________________________________________________________

Stevee,I did add an inch to my engine mount and I weigh about 160. I think theinfo from Grant's notebook disk says max 20 inches back.Craig________________________________________________________________________________

OK guys, another question from the dumb ass. Very soon I plan to mate the wingsto the fuselage so I can cut the struts to fit and give it a weight check. Isit possible to check the CG,and how close will it be after taking it apart againto cover and paint? Gardiner Mason--- by the way, I have closed up the reardoor, and I think it is much stronger than before I cut it. The front door I'mbeefing up too when in the closed position.Thanks-Gardiner________________________________________________________________________________

Good day Gentleman & LadiesMy build partner and I, are about to assemble the fuselage on our AirCamper. Are there any, significant weight and build differences in using an allplywood fuselage stained, instead of cloth, paint etc.? Could someone with prior build experience, please elaborate on the pros orcons. Is there some data available on the finished weight of a plywood fuselage?Thank youCaptain MarcusChatham. Shad,I completely agree with you in taking advantage of the nice days. The last weekor so has been some of the nicest flying weather in a long time. All this weekis supposed to be nice too. Yesterday afternoon the whole family and I wentto the airport to hang out. I went up for a nice afternoon flight. We wenthome and were there for an hour or so and my wife looked at me and said "youwant to go back and fly more don't you?" Within a few minutes I was headed downthe road and meeting my brother-in-law to drag him along with me. What anevening for flying! There is definitely something about open cockpit fall flyingthat is fantastic!Hey, no complaining about winter and cabin fever! I flew every month last winterexcept for February and that was only because I had the plane down for a littlemaintenance. Someday I'll wise up though. Seems like the guys that havebeen flying longer eventually lose the ambition for winter flying! Until thenI'm looking for some homebuilt ski plans. Anybody have ideas?Don Emch NX899DERead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Sun, 30 Sep 2007 21:25:24 -0400

I built mine that way and compared notes with several others at the time. Mine was about 2-3 lbs heavier. I covered my fuse with a 2 oz. layer of fiberglass cloth and used West System Epoxy, then applied Spar varnish over that. As I recall bare fuselage, fully finished was about 65 lbs.I would consider going with the wood thikness as on plans and where you are adding wood to the rear, use 1/16" plywood. Keep th weight donw in the rear.Dick N. ----- Original Message -----
