Subject: Pietenpol-List: Cheap streamline tubingSorry Greg, there aint no such thing any more. The next best thing isstreamline alum. tubing. still not cheap, but it is by comparison tosteel. I'm buying my lift strut tubing from RANS over in Hays Ks. Theysell to homebuilders. They even have some nice strut end fittings, butthe holes are wrong for the Piet. They are simple 1X1 bar stock (6061T6) witch is available from ACS etc, All half the price of steel andlighter too. Leon S. Hutch. Ks. PS Speaking of cheap tubing, rememberall of the salvage yard types who brought their wares to the Osh. flymarket in years past. We spent hours and hours looking for those itemswe needed for our homebuilts? Only one there this year. He told me hecame within a cats whisker of not coming this year either. EAA ispricing all but the high dollar venders out of the show. 4K $ outside8K inside for a booth!!________________________________________________________________________________

Which tubing did you buy from Randy? How did you make attachments?? I wasthinking of making an adjustable tie rod end on one end to use for dihedraland washout adjustments.I was more than disappointed with the parts guys there. I didn't buy asingle part for my Piet at Osh this year. The only thing I got was a Piett-shirt.Greg________________________________________________________________________________

Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Cheap streamline tubingGreg: I haven't bought my tubing from Rans yet. I have a set of 4 strutsfrom a Quicksilver 500GT which is rated at 1000 gross. they have .049wall thickness. The Piet has a gvw of 1100 lbs. , So for my peace ofmind, I'm planning to go with the Rans strut witch have a .070 wall asused on the S-7 rated at 1200 lbs gross. The large struts have a 1inflat area inside (3/4"X3/4 for the smaller tubing) that take the 1X1 barstock ends. My plan is to slot the lower bar stock horizontally tofit in the fus. strut fittings in the normal way so the wing can bemoved for c/g. On the upper ends, I will use the same slotted bar stockalong with the bushing and strap weldment from the plans. On the rear Ialso want adjustment for wash in/out. The Quicksilver method was tobore and tap the bar stock for an eye bolt out of a large turnbuckle. 5/16 or 3/8 , I don't have them in front of me. I would preferrer a forkend rather than an eye bolt. Rans prices are $69 for a 98" strut $81 fora 116" piece. I found a Matco tail wheel at the Aeromart for $50 Theonly bargain I found all week . Also I ordered a pneumatic tailwheeltire from Andair (in England) (1/2 lb) to lighten things up at thetail. Andair makes those beautiful (expensive) gascolaters and fuelvalves used on the RV's and Glassair's. Another nifty idea I got from Rans isno turnbuckles on tailbrace wires. surely another couple pounds savedover 8 turnbuckles. See you at Benton. Doc,That's how I got mine. A fellow flyer from a nearby airport told me to comethere, they had lots. Couldn't believe it, go into the old hanger and lookup. It's exactly what you said, any damage, if any, is at the lower end.Cut out the center and you're ready to go.walt-----------------------------------------------------Click here for Free Video!!http://www.gohip.com/freevideo/-----Original Message-----

I was also disappointed with the parts available at OSH. SNF was muchbetter. The instrument prices were within a few bucks of new. I did make aside trip though to McCormick lumber in Madison, Wi. to pick up spruce formy spars. They have some very nice 16-20 ft - 1x6 & 1x9's. I got enoughfor spars, leading and trailing edges for $400.Dick Navratil----- Original Message -----
