Okay, Michael.Didn't know you were using a different airfoil. If you're using the Riblett airfoil, which I know has a considerably thicker section, then a 3" half-round maybe something that will work well for you. I don't know where you'd buy a half-roundthat size, but you would want to make sure the grain is nice and straight, and with acceptable amounts of runout. Again, it would likely be pretty easyto make a leading edge from scratch, by making a couple of angled cuts, andthen a bit of work with a block plane. Of course, you may need to turn on theshop-vac while you're using the block plane, to avoid being disturbed by the"eerie" sound of the wood shavings quietly curling off the leading edge. Alan,The scenes you mentioned were, indeed, featuring a Pietenpol Air Camper(magically flying a dozen or so years before it was even designed). A coupleof years ago, the owner/pilot, Shawn Wolk posted a message to the list, saying that he was asked to fly his Piet for the filming of this documentaryfilm. Shawn's Piet is one of (if not THE) oldest Pietenpols flying in Canada- originally built in 1933. Here's a couple of links to the postings:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?t=17317 andhttp://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?t=18380Bill C.________________________________________________________________________________Date: Mon, 8 Dec 2008 09:26:40 -0800 (PST)
