To those of you following the Pietenpol Aerial project that Oscar Zunigadonated to the Anchorage based Begich Middle School for a build a planeproject, here is an update.Jeff Scott crated the wings, tail feathers and fuselage last weekend andCarlile Transportation Systems picked it up yesterday. According to Scott itwill arrive in Anchorage in about 10-days. EAA Chapter 42 reimbursed Scottfor the expenses, just a bit under $300 for materials.I spoke with Harry McDonald, a C-185 pilot/owner the CEO of Carlile and hetold me he had heard about the pickup and that it would go to Arizona firstthen to Texas before being trucked to Alaska. McDonald said he was anxiousto get it up here so we could get it done-so he can fly it.The project has also received an offer from the University of AlaskaFairbanks, Aviation and Maintenance division who has offered a free O-290engine that they will rebuild as a class project this year.So the dream of the builder lives on, this will be an educational project.Big kudos to Oscar Z! And thanks to Jeff Scott from all here in the snowynorth.Rob________________________________________________________________________________Date: Sat, 24 Jan 2009 16:33:30 -0800 (PST)
