Hey Shad,Yeah, I made it to the Barber Fly-in. I went over last night (Friday) with myoldest daughter and we tented it by the plane. Beautiful night for camping! We had breakfast, hung out for a while, hopped a couple rides, then headed forhome in the early afternoon. They had a pretty nice turn out. Dozens of airplanesand lots of Corvairs (the ground bound kind). Frank Pavliga had both ofhis Piets flying too. Almost had a Piet Fly-in!Don EmchNX899DERead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Sat, 6 Jun 2009 20:25:05 -0600Subject: Pietenpol-List: Corvair vs. O-200 weight comparision

Not to keep fanning the flames here, but this is from the ContinentalOverhaul manual for the O-200:Weight of basic engine 170.18 lbsMarvel-Schebler Carburetor 2.62 lbsTwo Bendix Magnetos (Slick's are lighter) 12.12 lbsEight shielded spark plugs 1.75 lbsShielded ignition harness (unshielded is lighter) 3.81 lbsCarburetor air intake and filter assembly 3.12 lbsTotal Weight 193.60 lbsThis does not include exhaust, engine oil, starter or generator/alternator.Starter and Generator, if using the old Delco Remy stuff that came with theengine weighs 15.50 lbs for the starter and 10.12 for the generator, whichwould bring the total weight to 219.22 lbs, but who needs all that stuff ona Pietenpol? The new Sky-Tec stuff is considerably lighter. Their starterfor an O-200 is only 9.2 lbs, and a Plane Power gear driven alternator isonly 6.8 lbs, so the total weight of the engine with modern starter andalternator would be 209.60 lbs.Just wanted to set the record straight on weights here. We can talk aboutreliability later.Jack PhillipsNX899JP _____
