Subject: Pietenpol-List: RE: Mike Cuy's turtledeck covering Hi Dan, Actually that is some kind of fabric backed vinyl that appears leather-like. I had my cockpit covers sewn out of the samematerial from a local Mom and Pop upholstery shop. In a rush to finish my plane I omitted finishing tapes over each turtledeck stringerand with entry and exit my butt was pressingand flexing the fabric over the strings which eventually caused paint crackingand a hole in the fabric. Rather than recoverand paint that whole top area I opted to play with white poster board paper mockups of various shapes and curves for thatpatch. Once I settled on the size and shape in paper I simply transferred thatpattern to a leftover roll of the cockpit covermaterial. I used (not the spray on stuff) contact cement on both surfaces (in a small canfrom Home Depot/ Lowe's) using a brush then let the surfaces dry to a tack then with help from friends at the airport carefullylaid the vinyl down and pressed it to secure. I left the front end overhang the hatbox area by about an inch and then trimmedwith an Xacto knife to make it look like I reallyknew what I was doing:) Mike C.________________________________________________________________________________
