Just signed up for Corvair college and indicated that I would be bringing an engineto dissasemble. Only problem is, I don't have one. If anyone has a lead on a good core, especially around the southeast, please letme know. I would be willing to pay a fair price, if you are expecting body parts( arm ,leg or both) in exchange for your engine, please do not respond.Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

Most of the wire wheels you see on Pietenpols are 18 to 22" in diameter Vasek. My planeon the left has 19" rims while Jack Phillips plane on the right I believe has 22" wheels.Mike C.Ohio________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Corvair engine core

Bill,One word of advice on Craigslist.Craigslist is a snapshot in time of what is in the market. By that I mean, if youput in an ad that you are looking for a Corvair, you might have to place thatad 6 or 8 times in a row before someone responds with a viable motor at a reasonableprice. For example, I offered to help Spencer Rice find a motor in Portland, Oregon (heis a 16 year old Corvair and Zenith 601 builder). I put an ad in the PortlandCraigslist for over a month and could not seem to find a motor, then, Boom, one popped up at a good price only 2 miles from Spencer's house, with a factorynitrided crankshaft to boot.Just keep looking and you will find one - maybe even closer than you think.--------Semper Fi,Terry HandAthens, GARead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

Vasek,I have 16 inch wheels on mine. It looks good with them also. The problem with mineis that 16 inch tires are getting hard to get. I would recommend choosinga wheel size that tires are easily available. It makes a difference in ten yearswhen you need tires. I now have to order my from the internet. Bill,Glad you are headed to Corvair college #29. If you have not landed an engine coreyet, here is a tool that you may not have seen before. In 10 minutes of lookingwith it I found this lead 155 miles from your house in Greenville SC:1966 4 door corvair, auto matic, for parts or restore, cant text pictures 864-915-6395 The site is http://www.searchtempest.com/. (You can find it by goggling "Search Tempest Craigslist") It is a search engine that looks on all the Craigslists for you in any specified radius from your home zip code. I have used it to find all kinds of stuff, I have found it more productive than Ebay or Corsa. Email me privately if you have not found a core before the college.-ww.Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

The landing gear/lower wing strut fittings look like GN-1 fittings. Therear landing gear attachment is forward of the rear cabain which is commonon a GN-1 but not on the Pietenpol. What is not typical of a GN-1 is therear wing strut attaching to the rear gear location. I'm guessing that thismakes your wing struts are not parallel. Mr. Grega recommended using a Cubwing and landing gear on the GN-1. The attachment for the rudder cables arebelow the stabilizer which is where the GN-1 mounting point is. Most of theother differences between a GN-1 and a Pietenpol are in the metal fittingsand the fully sheeted fuselage. Both of which cannot be seen in thepicture. My guess though is this is a GN-1. This whole conversation about TRUE Pietenpols comes up frequently. I thinkwhat really irritates the purists is to call all the various look-a-likes aPietenpol. Be true to the design and call it a GN-1 which is inspired by thePietenpol. But in the end it really doesn't matter what it is as long asyou like it. And it sounds like you do.Chris-----Original Message-----
