Hi Scott,Thanks for the history on your wheels, good stuff, just the right amount of info!I like it when owners know the details/history of the various bits and pieces attached to their homebuilt aircraft. It makes the aircraft even more interesting. Some people aren't really into that sort of thing but as for me, I think it's great!CheersMarkJapan> >> Mark,>> My wheels are from the early 1920's. .............> Maybe more than you wanted to know?>> Cheers,>> --------> Scott Liefeld> Flying N11MS since March 1972> Steel Tube> C-85-12> Wire Wheels> Brodhead in 1996________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Noise from Japan

Sort of out of the norm for most aircraft mechs, decent woodworking tools. Personally, the most valuable wood machine to me is a bandsaw. I'd get a simple14 inch woodcutter. All of the imports are knockoffs of the venerable delta/Milwaukee/Rockwellsaw. A good used one should cost no more than a hundred bucks. Useful for everything. For another hundred or two, get one with a transmission to slow it down formetal cutting. This makes making all the metal fittings much easier.Next on the list is a nice little stationary belt/disc sander combo. Mark,This is the only other picture I have seen of a plane with wheels like mine. Ihave never seen them on another flying airplane. I also have an old catalogsomewhere at home that shows them for sale. These wheels are someting I am alwayslooking for when I visit muesum's.https://www.facebook.com/60516095953816 ... -----Scott LiefeldFlying N11MS since March 1972Steel TubeC-85-12Wire WheelsBrodhead in 1996Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Fuel tank progress/welding.....

I would estimate my total cost at around $15,000 in 1995 prices but I would guess I could still do it for about that amount now.I just completely majored m A-65 and that ran me $5,500 to do it using 100% top notch FAA Certified reconditioning shops and all new parts.Mike C.Ohio________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Fuel tank progress/welding.....

Did you use 5000 series aluminum or 6000 series for the tank? Filler rod 4043 or5365 for the welds seams?Just curious,WF2--------Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Tue, 15 Sep 2015 20:15:33 -0700 (PDT)

Attached is a "sketch" of how I plan to mount my tank. It is similar to my understandingof how the WACO biplanes mount their tanks. The green is a 1" wide 0.10" thick 4130 strap. The red is the plywood bottom ofthe wood center-section.Fasteners are represented by the "brown" rivets and black bolts. The purple represents a stainless-steel strap with a turnbuckle to hold the tankdown. I plan to use felt (black lines) below the tank and under the stainless-steelstraps.--------Jake Schultz - curator,Newport Way Air Museum (OK, it's just my home)Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ttachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/fuel ... ______Date: Mon, 28 Sep 2015 14:25:48 -0600Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Re: Fuel tank progress/welding.....

Almost identical to the method I used to mount my tank. Ten years, 350hours and Lord knows how many hard landings and there are no problems.Jack PhillipsNX899JPSmith Mountain Lake, Virginia-----Original Message-----

I attached an invoice from the company that supplied our pickups. Somepeople use the smooth one and fab up a tube on a bracket with a set screw tohold the sensor. This is the way WW did it at one time. After a lot ofsearching, I found the same sensor that is threaded and uses two nuts toadjust. This really works great as all you need is a bracket with a hole init. Just slide in the sensor and tighten down the nuts when the adjustmentis set. On the other one, the set screw dents the side of the sensor if itis tightened down too much. This dent makes it almost impossible to adjusttiny amounts unless you keep rotating it around to find an undented spot.I'm not making a recommendation, just what we learned from experience on theBig Piets.BarryNX973BP ________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Fuel tank progress/welding.....
